Introducing S.P.I.C.E: Smart data Pipelines for the CognItive ComputE Continuum

The project started in April 2025 and is expected to last 30 months.  This is a project within the call of Transformation and Innovation Consortia.

The consortium consists of the main coordinator, InterWay a.s., and nine partners from Slovakia, Poland, Spain and Austria.  The project is implemented using 18 work packages.

The aim of the call is applied research and development, its implementation takes place within the framework of practical pilot projects that will be connected to the central computing infrastructure (“Continuum”).

The pilot projects represent only a sample for a significantly wider platform for further use in various economic sectors, based on a central, robust and broad-spectrum computing platform, which is the central point of the project.

Artificial intelligence is supposed to help create models of behavior and offer users suitable algorithms, whether in manufacturing, energy or medicine.

Some model areas that have a large volume of data were selected for the project. They will be collected and prepared for calculations for the central computing platform. In the project, there will be 5 areas of application, where the needs for data processing are defined, as well as usable outputs from the computing platform. The project has the ambition to create an innovative computing architecture for these areas. Also, individual requirements from specific areas of economy and research will be tested using innovative computational methods that enable the processing of large volumes of data.

Our Use cases

Mechanical engineering and mechatronics use case:

  • UC 1 Analytics for Predictive Customer Support in Laser Cutting Centers

Energy management use cases:

  • UC 2 Smart Data Analytics for Transmission and Distribution Networks
  • UC 3 (SCDI) Predictive Models in Smart Grid Management to Balance Decentralized and Existing Energy Sources within Smart Grid Management to Balance Decentralized and Existing Energy Sources

Medical use cases:

  • UC 4 Computer Screening in Radiology
  • UC 5 Research with a Focus on Investigating New Approaches Using AI in Histopathology

However, the project also has several connections with other European programs and projects.

It also aims to support the establishment of the GAIA X Digital Clearing House in terms of data acquisition, aggregation and analysis.

S.P.I.C.E. will strengthen digital performance for Slovak businesses, build on the EU’s dynamic data ecosystems at the interface of industry, public administration, research and development in terms of sharing complex data, and the specific use will then be the task of individual partners, where each of them must develop a so-called exploitation plan.
