Excellence of the project
The growing scale and complexity of the Cloud led to the emergence of Edge and IoT computing in the “compute continuum” for applications relying heavily on sensor data and time-critical AI-assisted data processing.
Its primary goal is to enable intelligent decision making and gain deeper insights across the continuum. At the same time, assembling and maintaining well-designed data pipelines involves addressing numerous technical, operational and organizational challenges.
These hurdles and expertise/resource constraints act as a barrier for wider adoption of data pipelines. Our goal is to provide: (1) AI-assisted composition of smart data pipelines to radically simplify complex and distributed data processing, (2) a highly optimized execution environment and resource management that enable secure and smart data processing for the compute continuum.
The results of our project will be made available as an innovation transformation incubator for others to exploit.
Main objective
S.P.I.C.E. will create a novel platform for SMART data pipelines that will be secure, trustworthy, composable, adaptable and explainable across the compute continuum, capable of extracting meaningful and reliable data from heterogeneous and widely dispersed sources.
It will tackle the quality, performance and dependability requirements of data mining, aggregation, and analytics through a ground-breaking system-wide “knowledge infrastructure as a platform” and a semantically enriched, platform-agnostic, and secured data pipeline composition and execution environment with automatic resource management.
It will represent a model of a human-centric, trustworthy, energy-aware and fair AI system enabling truly distributed industrial and scientific decision-making. The resulting services of the envisioned platform will be made available via innovation transformation incubator for further exploitation. In addition, partners will investigate the possibility of its integration with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and European common data spaces.
